So you’re 15, maybe 16 years old and sophomore in high school.  This May, you will be just a few classes shy of completing your high school coursework.  You already have a semester of college under your belt.  How do you feel?

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL), is pleased to support The Bridge of Southern New Mexico with a donation of $1,800. The check was presented to The Bridge during the NMSU vs. Hawaii basketball game Feb. 23 at the Pan American Center.

CenturyLink’s philanthropic goals have a primary focus on K-12 education, technology-based initiatives and programs that strengthen communities. As part of the company’s community commitment, CenturyLink donated $100 to The Bridge for every game the Aggies scored more than 80 points this season.

Some of the most hotly debated topics in this legislative session are about education.  What’s important about those conversations is that everyone, at the end of the day, wants the same thing.  The goal is to build structures to support children who are well educated, well prepared for college, and well-trained to enter our workforce, and therefore, our economy.

While much of the attention is on the issue of social promotion, we need to support today’s high school, students in their pursuit of a degree or certification in college, and preparation for career success.

“What gets measured gets done,” is a pretty common phrase.  It rightly states that if you have an expectation and a sense of being accountable for a goal or outcome, the odds are pretty good that you’ll see progress made toward accomplishing that goal.

Measurement is key to understanding what works and what doesn’t – what can be called success and what needs to be redirected or scrapped all together.  Depending on the kind of measurement, you may even be able to understand why something works or not and apply that understanding to expand the scope and scale of success.
